Shweta Kapoor, MD, PhD is a board-certified psychiatrist and founder of Kalm Psychiatry, specializing in physician mental health, workplace trauma, burnout, and high-functioning professional stress. With dual training as both a BC psychiatrist (MD) and PhD in clinical psychology, she brings an integrative and psychologically informed approach to helping physicians and healthcare professionals navigate the emotional demands of medicine. Her clinical work integrates intensive psychotherapy with medication management, if needed. Highly collaborative in her approach, she empowers her patients to be an active participant in their treatment and treatment decisions.
Dr. Kapoor works with medical students, residents, physicians, and healthcare leaders who are experiencing mental and physical exhaustion, loss of joy and purpose in medicine, experiencing burnout, anxiety, perfectionism, workplace bullying, moral injury, retaliation, toxic training environments, and the cumulative effects of chronic stress within healthcare systems. She has a particular interest in workplace traumatization in medicine — including the ways repeated invalidation, intimidation, overwork, and institutional pressures can erode confidence, emotional wellbeing, and professional identity over time.
Her work focuses not only on recovery from stress and trauma, but also on helping physicians reconnect with their voice, boundaries, and sense of agency. She supports clinicians in developing healthier patterns of self-advocacy, recognizing when workplace dynamics have become harmful, and building the confidence to pursue meaningful change — whether through boundary setting, leadership development, career transitions, or creating more sustainable ways of practicing medicine.
Dr. Kapoor previously served on faculty at Mayo Clinic, Baylor College of Medicine and The Menninger Clinic and has held clinical and research roles at The Menninger Clinic and Emory University School of Medicine. She continues to be an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Emory University SOM. Through Kalm Psychiatry, she provides thoughtful, confidential, trauma-informed care tailored to the unique realities of medical culture and professional life.
